Director of Packaging Sustainability, Danone North America
Sam Harrington is Director of Packaging Sustainability for Danone North America, where he works to transition to 100% circular (reusable/recyclable/compostable) food and beverage packaging. Prior to joining Danone, Sam spent 5 years living and working in Denmark. He led environmental sustainability for JYSK, a home goods retailer with 3000+ stores in 50 countries, and before that was in charge of sustainable packaging at LEGO. Sam began his career at Ecovative, a biomaterials startup company that pioneered materials grown from mycelium which turned out to be a great alternative to plastic foam packaging, thus sparking an unexpected career in sustainable packaging. Sam studied mechanical engineering and product design & innovation at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He lives in sunny Boulder, Colorado with his wife and son where he strives for a low-plastic lifestyle.
